2019-20 Q1 Region Numbers
The total number of youth members in the region as at the end of June 2019 was 537 comprising of 65 Joey Scouts, 228 Cub Scouts, 190 Scouts, 67 Venturer Scouts and 23 Rover Scouts. This count is up 9.4% since 01 April 2019.
At the end of June 2019, we also had a total of 211 Adult Members comprising of 1 Assistant Region Commissioner, 3 District Commissioners, 12 District Leaders, 98 group/section Leaders, 68 Support Members (Adult Members & Adult Helpers), 27 Fellowship members and 2 campsite members.
The region youth count target set by the Chief Commissioner of Queensland for the 2019-20 Scouting year is 911 Youth members. This target is updated each year to ensure we achieve the goal of 22,000 youth members in QLD in 2022. At present our region is well behind the required target as is QLD overall. At the end of the 2018-19 Scouting year, Scouts QLD only had just over 11,000 youth members and the target for QLD was 11,450. I have set a region target of 25% growth which is very achievable.
Below is the Region Dashboard for the first quarter as well as the dashboards for the three Districts.
As shown in the dashboards, the region is certainly enrolling new members (58 since 01 April) but the churn rate (resignations with respect to recruitment – shown in the last column) is still a concern. Last years churn rate was 113% (Recruited 218, resigned 246). As I have mentioned previously, if we were to just half the churn rate, we would have a substantial growth in membership (using last years figures, halving the Churn rate would have given the Region a 12% growth instead of an 8% drop).
